Longtime Rotarian and community leader Emory Morsberger of Lilburn was presented the inaugural Rotary Peace & Unity Award at a special event Sept. 15 at the Hudgens Center for Art & Learning.
The Rotary Club of Gwinnett, together with fellow Rotary Clubs across the county and the Ismaili Council for the Southeastern United States, hosted the annual Peace & Unity event. The gathering coincided with the United Nations’ International Day of Peace and reflected Rotary International’s presidential theme, “Unite for Good.”
Morsberger’s award was presented by Rotary District 6910 Governor Jessica Fleetwood, who praised Morsberger’s service and humanitarian leadership.
Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Morsberger has spearheaded Helping Ukraine, a nonprofit that has delivered more than $5 million in aid to the country. He first traveled to Ukraine in June 2022 and has since dedicated his efforts to supporting those fighting for freedom and democracy.
Celebrating Disney at Gas South District: Disney on Ice is coming to Gwinnett this week and Gas South District is celebrating with a special screening of “Moana 2” on Wednesday evening.
To highlight Disney On Ice being in town, a special screening of “Moanna 2” will be held Sept. 24 at The Lawn in front of Gas South Arena.
The screening will be held at The Lawn located outside of Gas South Arena. The event, which will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. will also feature Disney trivia with prizes, a meet and-greet opportunity with iconic Disney characters and exclusive giveaways.
Gas South Arena is located at 6400 Sugarloaf Parkway in unincorporated Duluth.
Honoring Jimmy Carter: Gwinnett County will join the nation in honoring the enduring legacy of President Jimmy Carter and his lifelong commitment to public service, human rights, and community building with a tribute on Oct. 1.

The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. at Best Friend Park in Norcross. The celebration, held in partnership with the Gateway85 Community Improvement District, Gwinnett County Public Schools, and Gwinnett Habitat for Humanity, will bring together students, residents, and community partners in shared reflection on President Carter’s values of peace, unity, and compassion.
Activities throughout the day and weekend will include opportunities for service, artistic expression, and public displays inspired by his life’s work. As a key part of the tribute, the Jimmy Carter Legacy Art and Essay Contest will feature creative works from students in the Meadowcreek and Norcross clusters of Gwinnett County Public Schools.
The top three contest winners will be displayed at the Carter Center in Atlanta. The 36 honorable mentions will be showcased at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, as well as Best Friend Park and the Norcross Branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library.
Evermore CID to host ribbon cutting for new road: The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, in partnership with the Evermore CID, will host a ribbon cutting on Sept. 30 for the project that connects Hewatt Rd. to Parkwood Rd. to Britt Rd. and aligns with Evermore North Blvd.
“This road will improve mobility for residents and businesses by providing an alternate route for travel within the Evermore Community,” Evermore CID officials said.
The ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. Parking is available at 2073 Westside Court in Snellville.

This year iit’s time for the tiebreaker. The gloves are back on as the cities participate in a friendly but fierce competition to support the North Gwinnett Co-Op. This year’s bout runs from Sept. 20 through Oct. 19.
Round 1 went to Sugar Hill. In Round 2 Suwanee came back swinging. Now it’s time for the heavyweight championship — and both cities are in it to win it. In 2024, Suwanee collected 14,025 pounds of food and $2,195 in monetary donations during the campaign. Throughout the month-long campaign, donation bins will be available at city hall, partner businesses, and community events. Online donations will also be accepted.
