My name is Maryna, and I’m from Odessa, Ukraine, representing Found Good Samaritan. With Helping Ukraine US, we organize special camps for children who have gone through the trauma of war. These camps give kids a safe place to heal, find comfort, and feel like children again.
Our last camp was unforgettable. We welcomed 63 children, including 15 orphans who have faced incredible hardships. One child, Oksana, a 14-year-old girl from Kherson, arrived at camp feeling very lost. She kept to herself, wouldn’t speak, and didn’t want to take part in activities. But on the third day, everything changed. We played a game that encouraged the children to express their feelings through drawing. Oksana, who hadn’t drawn since the war began, suddenly picked up a pencil and started to create beautiful pictures.
Her mother called us after camp, overjoyed. “What did you do with my child?” she asked. Before the war, Oksana loved drawing and dreamed of being an artist, but when a rocket took her father’s life and destroyed their home, she lost all hope. Now, thanks to the camp, she’s drawing again, smiling, and dreaming once more.
Stories like Oksana’s show the healing power of these camps. It’s a blessing to see these children smile and feel happy again. But we can’t do it without your support.
Please consider giving a donation to help more children like Oksana heal and find hope. Your generosity will make a real difference.
