As part of our ongoing humanitarian mission to Ukraine, Olga Gorman and I spent our second day in Lviv visiting one of the country’s most forward-thinking institutions: the Tech StartUp School at Lviv Polytechnic National University.
This innovative hub, led by Dr. Nazar Podolchak, is more than a university lab—it’s a launchpad for Ukraine’s future. Here, people of all ages, from students to seniors in their 90s, work side-by-side to create life-saving technologies, build new businesses, and strengthen Ukraine’s resilience through hands-on innovation.
From Classroom to Frontline Support
At Tech StartUp School, students begin with theoretical training and quickly move into prototyping real solutions:
🔧 AI-powered rescue robots developed in state-of-the-art fabrication labs
🧪 Biotech teams producing new health solutions for pets and humans alike
🛠️ Retired engineers repairing equipment used on the front lines of the war
These are not just academic exercises. The work done here directly supports Ukraine’s defense, economic recovery, and social innovation.
Meeting the Minds Behind the Mission
We also had the honor of speaking with Michael Veselovski, mentor for the university’s Internet of Things (IoT) program. One of his student teams began by tackling suicide prevention among youth and, through international collaboration, evolved their concept into a digital solution to support family relationships—an issue many Ukrainians are facing during wartime separation.
Their vision: stronger families mean stronger communities—and ultimately, a stronger nation.
Why This Matters—and How You Can Help
Despite the constant threat of air raids, these students, scientists, and volunteers keep working. Their determination is a powerful reminder that Ukraine’s greatest weapon may be its ingenuity.
You can be part of this transformation. Every donation helps provide scholarships, equipment, and mentorship that fuels these innovations.
Your support empowers Ukraine’s brightest minds to build technologies that protect lives, restore infrastructure, and prepare the country for a better tomorrow.
